Gangtok

Gangtok, the capital of the mountainous state Sikkim, is placed at an altitude of 5500 feet above sea level and on the eastern Himalayan range. Gangtok mean “the lofty hill” and it rose to the present status after the construction of a famous monastery named Enchey Monastery in the year 1840. From then it has become a famous pilgrimage for Buddhism. It’s one of the most picturesque places in North India. How to reach Gangtok??

  • By Road: : To reach Gangtok by road from the major cities of the country is troublesome and expensive too. You should reach to the nearest airport or railway station and after than can travel by road. You can hire cabs from Bagdogra airport and enjoy the road trip with the beautiful sight of Teesta River which circles around the whole North India. You can avail buses or personal cabs from Siliguri to reach the place.
  • By Railway: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest railway station from Gangtok (148 kms). It’s a well-connected city from major railway stations like Kolkata, New Delhi etc. From Siliguri you have to take bus or have to book personal cabs to go the main visiting points of Gangtok. It will take 5 to 6 hours.
  • By Air: Bagdogra is the nearest airport on Gangtok (124 km away). You can reach this domestic airport from every corner of the country. After reaching the airport you can hire your personal air vehicle that is call helicopter here. By helicopter you will reach Gangtok in 20 minute. Thought the time of arrival depends on whether condition. This flight can be cancels in any time due to insufficient booking.

What to see in Gangtok?

  • Rumtek Monastery is the must visit place located only 24 kms away from Gangtok. The beautiful monastery will fill your heart with solemn happiness.
  • Yumthang, the valley of flowers is rich with the gorgeous rhododendron and other wild hill orchids.
  • You can experience the Zero Point that is situated in Lachung which is 120kms away from here.
  • Experience the Tashiding Monastery, the most wonderful sight of the place, which is situated 6500 ft high from the sea level.
  • Visit the Himalayan Zoological Park and enhance your cognizance about the hill, its nature and the hilly lives.

When to visit Gangtok?

Though explorer can visit Gangtok any time but the best time to visit is from March to November.
