Lachung

Lachung is the beautiful small hilly village situated in Sikkim. The name is derived from a small brook Lachung. And the both sides of the river are called by the same name. The Lachung Gumpha is the main attraction of the village and there is a sanctuary called Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary is there very near. The inhabitants of the village are lining their lived by crafting and their handicrafts are one of the most attractive parts of the place.

How to reach Lachung?

By Road: : After reaching the nearest airport or railway station you can hire a taxi or book personal cab to Gangtok. It’s 125 kms away from Gangtok and takes 7 hours approx by cab. You can have direct bus from New Jalpaiguri Station though they are not very frequent.
By Railway: On the other hand, New Jalpaiguri is the nearest railway station which is too well connected to Kolkata, New Delhi and other major railway cities.
By Air: You cannot reach Lachung direct by air. The nearest airport from the place is Bagdogra, Siliguri which is situated in Darjeeling district. This well-connected airport is linked to every major city in the country.

Places to visit in Lachung.

Lachung Monastery: It’s the pride of the place which is reared by nature amid the tranquil aura of the apple orchard and Located at the height of 2700m above sea level; it becomes the resting place for the trekkers, climbers and explorers. This monastery is an ancient Nyingma Buddhist Gompa situated between three rivers- Lachung, Lachen and Teesta. The silent and placid ambiences provide you with the ultimate peace.
Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary: Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary has more than 24 different species of the beautiful rhododendron shrubs. Large collection of flora is originated at the place which includes Rhododendrons, Poppies, Saxifrages, Primulas, Gentians, Iris and more. It is the abode of tiger and spotted lingsang.
Yumesamdong (Zero Point): It’s the paramount of Lachung and a fascinating place for the visitors. The snow capped picks of Himalayan ranges are the centre of attraction. The place is very close to China and Tibet border.
