Namchi

The name Namchi though being a Nepali term is derived from two Sikkimese terms, Nam (Sky) and Chi (High). Situated about 78 km away from Gangtok and 100 km from Siliguri, it is well-connected from Sikkim and West Bengal. With prime focus on education, Namchi has a large number of school and educational institutes.

  • By Railway: Darjeeling is the nearest station from Namchi and is situated at a distance of 18 km. It takes around 2 hours to reach Namchi by train from Siliguri.
  • By Air: There are numerous flights available from Siliguri to Namchi and it takes around 1 hour. Taxi services are available from just outside the airport. The nearest airport being Bagdogra is just 52 km away from Namchi.
