Meghalaya
The beautiful state Meghalaya is one of the part of the seven sister states in North-eastern India. The etymological meaning of the name Meghalaya is “Adobe of clouds”. It is derived from Sanskrit in which “Megha” means “cloud” and “Alaya” means “abode”. The state is popular from the hilly nature and cloudy weather.
Meghalaya has situated only 60 Km away from Assam. Garo and Khasi hills make the place more beautiful than ever before. As the name suggest this place prone to rain and the average rainfall of the place is about 12,000 mm per year. Shillong and Cherrapunji are the most attraction of the place.
How To Reach Meghalaya?
- By Rail: Meghalaya is located near a railway station Mendipathar. You can reach Mendipathar in Meghalaya from Assam by train. Usually, people board from other parts of India and reach Assam. Afterwards, they board to Mendipathar.
- By Air: Meghalaya has a small airport at Umroi, 30km from Shillong. As Shillong airport is connected to every domestic airport of the city you can reach Shillong first and then take another flight to Umroi.
- By Road: Meghalaya is situated at 60 km distance from Assam. So, it is really very easy to get connected with this state from Assam.
What to see and do at Meghalaya?
- Cherrapunji is the most exciting place of the state. The Live Root Bridge is the main attraction of the place as it is the natural bridge made by the roots of different trees.
- Elephant Falls, Nahkaikai Falls, Kynrem falls and Nohsngithiang Falls are the four famous falls for the scenic beauty.
- Visit Shillong peak, the most tantalising eye treat of the entire trip. This is the ultimate definition of the name Meghalaya.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Meghalaya?
There is only two season in Meghalaya- Summer and Monsoon. However, you can visit the place any time of the season but if you want to feel the actual Meghalaya, especially Cherrapunji plan to go between June to October. The monsoon places its role during this period.
