Hemis National Park is a famous wildlife park located in Ladakh. Include the park in your trip itinerary and catch a glimpse of snow leopards. Hundreds of tourists visit the park every year as it is the largest national park in India. Some mountainous regions in the park receive heavy snowfall in winter. There is glacier condensation in this region during summer, so you can expect some flooding. Animals are generally seen near water sources. The Hemis Monastery is located near the boundary of the park.
Though you can visit Hemis National Park any time of the year to enjoy its natural beauty, most tourists prefer summer as the park receives sufficient warmth and sunlight. Days are slightly warm while nights are cold. It is very cold during winter, so you can expect less vegetation.
If you have booked your Ladakh trip package for the winter months, you can enjoy the park's beautiful curb appeal and landscape as snowfall is quite common. The area receives very less rainfall during monsoon and there isn't any specific monsoon season. If you plan to undertake some trekking activities, schedule your trip between June and October.
You will be surprised to know that this famous national park in Ladakh has a population of around 200 snow leopards. You can also see the Eurasian Brown Bear, the Tibetan Wolf and the Red Fox. Few of the small mammals found in Hemis National Park are the Himalayan Mouse Hare and Himalayan Marmot. It is one of the best places where you can start your research on Himalayan and Trans-Himalayan birds of prey. The Himalayan Griffon vulture, Lammergeier Vulture and Golden Eagle are a few common birds of prey.
